Our theme for Mini-Church times this winter at Gem Lake Wilderness Camp was “Not Alone.” We explored God’s reaction to us when we feel alone because we have messed up in life. We also looked at how God can help us when we are feeling alone as a result of bad things that happened in our life which were beyond our control. Many of the youth in our community struggle with feeling as though they are doing life alone. The campers responded well to the topic. I believe they came away knowing that God understands how they feel and having learned what God says to do when they are feeling alone. Pray that God reminds them to practice what they learned when tough times come.
As I get things wrapped up after winter camps I will move into planning for the summer program and putting together our summer staff team. We have some returning staff from last summer, but will need several more to round out our team. If you know of any solid young Christians that love God, love the youth from our community and love adventure, please contact me about them. I would love to talk to them about the positions we have available this summer.
ICYA is also working on a Discipleship Training Program for leaders from our community who are hoping to work in our drop-in programs in Winnipeg or as counsellors up at Gem Lake. Please pray that this program will be a valuable tool in helping to raise up strong leaders from our community. Finally, pray that God will lead us to the staff team he wants up at camp this summer.
