I have come to the realization I have not sent out a newsletter for a meaningful period of time. In my defence, I did have a wedding I was preparing for. Krystalyn and I celebrated our union on May 30 in a small ceremony here in Thompson. We were quite determined to get married despite all the restrictions due to COVID-19 and we are very thankful that we did.
We held our ceremony at the Light of the North Church and had a BBQ in my backyard after. Our ceremony was attended by family and a few close friends. We were so thankful that the gathering limit increased a week before our wedding. We increased our group size, but it was still challenging navigating all the last-minute regulation changes.
Midway Builders is gearing up for a summer of activity. We will likely be wearing respirators or masks whenever we need to do any indoor work. We are very thankful for no confirmed cases of the virus in Thompson. Please pray for all of us here to know how to continue to minister effectively in the new time that we are living in.
Midway Bible Camp will not be happening normally this year. We have made the difficult decision to postpone camp for the summer. We are going to be doing virtual Bible lessons throughout the summer as a way to continue connecting with kids and with communities.
One benefit is that camp is limited in how many campers can come in a year. By going online this summer, we have the potential to reach more kids than we might normally see. One determining factor for not running camp this year is that sleeping in a cabin has an even greater transmission risk for viruses than attending school. We eat, sleep and do activities in close quarters at camp.
This summer we will still be doing maintenance and upkeep of the camp property. One of the older buildings on the site collapsed due to snow load this year.
We are waiting for the day we will be allowed to travel into the reserve communities again. We are thankful for good relations with the leadership in the many communities we serve in. Please keep praying for us as we proclaim Christ and keep on serving throughout the summer.
