“There are many plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that will prevail.” Proverbs 19:21
In the midst of all that is going on in our world today as it relates to COVID-19, what a comfort it is to know that God was not taken by surprise. He is not confused or overwhelmed by the situation. He is in control and His purposes will prevail.
When the world went into lockdown there were no signs of the virus in the community where we minister. However, schools and churches were closed early on, so the leadership of the church cancelled services as well as the children’s ministry. We did not go to the community for quite a while because the government wanted everyone to stay at home as much as possible.
However, the believers there, especially the pastor and his wife, were getting regular invitations to visit unbelievers’ homes. The community was in a spiritual vacuum as the Catholic church was closed during this entire time. Since the people have been taught that in the church is the only place to pray to and worship God, they were becoming desperate to take their problems to God but they felt they couldn’t. Such was the case with two families who are very staunch Catholics, but were now open for Christians to visit them and pray for their sick.
Please pray for Tony, who has serious health issues. Pray also for his daughter-in-law (a believer), that God would give her the words to share with the family and that this situation would open the family to the Gospel. Another family needed prayer for their daughter who had been quite sick for some time. Some of the believers went to pray for her and also took her to a Christian doctor, who was able to help her. Please pray for this family to turn away from their idols to the living God.
Please pray that the children’s ministry will resume soon. We believe that the children are the key to change in the community. The adults are so engrained in their traditions that it is hard for them to leave those behind, but the children are open to God’s Word and God is using them to share the truth with their families.
Josiah and ChristyAnn are doing well. Josiah’s school year at Capernwray ended prematurely, but he handled it well and still has a regular study with his small group via Zoom. ChristyAnn is looking forward to attending Capernwray this fall. We praise God that both have a steady job and that they are growing in their faith in Him.
We praise God that throughout this pandemic He has protected us and kept us in good health. Our plans for a short furlough were cancelled but we trust that in God’s time we will be able to go to Canada and connect with many of you.
