From the very beginning of the Sos Kundi translation project, my translation partner Elvira and I have concentrated on training Sos Kundi people so that someday they would be able to take ownership of the translation project. God gave us the privilege of helping the Sos Kundi people to have His word in their language, however, we always knew that it is God’s project and not ours. Recently I talked with one of the Sos Kundi pastors. It seems like the people want to carry on with translation work. I also talked with one of the women from the Ladies’ Literacy Class. She reported that there are two groups of women who want to be involved in translating Bible stories. Pray that the people will organize themselves and work together to continue translating God’s word.
Up until recently, we could only get books printed in black and white. Now I am able to get them printed in colour! Last week copies of ten children’s stories and seven Bible stories, including the book of Jonah, went out to the village. Pray that these books will encourage the people to read in their language and to continue working on translating the Bible.
To say that 2020 was a challenging year is becoming rather cliché. For me, in addition to the challenges caused by global events, it has meant losing a loved one. After suffering a number of strokes since August, my dad Norman Janzen passed away in November. Thank you to all of you who have been supportive during this difficult time.
This last year has also meant struggling with deciding whether and how to continue with the Sos Kundi translation project. After much prayer, I believe that it is time for a change. I will be working part-time until the end of March 2021 to tie up loose ends on the Sos Kundi translation project after which I will be ending my time with Wycliffe. I have loved working with the Sos Kundi people. Thankfully, technology has made it possible for me to keep in touch with them by phone. I will continue to encourage and help them in an unofficial capacity for as long as God makes that possible. For those of you who are supporting me financially, I can continue receiving donations until the end of June. Wycliffe will send you an official letter after March with details about your donations. Thank you for your many years of prayer and financial support.
But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. Romans 8:25 ESV
