International Workers in Residence

SIM / Prairie College

Three Hills Alberta

Home church: Aylmer EMMC, Ontario

Back in 2002, living in Three Hills while getting aviation training here at Prairie Bible College, Bob was swimming in our goldfish bowl. During a bowl cleaning, Bob was accidently dropped into the sink. From that day on, Bob just lay at that bottom of the bowl, rolling from side to side as he allowed the food to flutter down to him.

At that time, we had a sibling living with us who was still quite early in his journey of following Christ. Going through some tough days, he prayed, “God, if you hear me, if you really care, you can heal this goldfish.”

And… God did!

Bob, the goldfish, was extra active from that day until we gave him to our friends a year later. Whether with big or small concerns, God is hearing, caring and helping His children. He is LOVE.

You draw near to those who call out to you, listening closely,

especially when their hearts are true.

(King David - Psalm 145:18 TPT)

This school year, we are living in Three Hills, AB in order to volunteer as International Workers in Residence with Prairie College. We are still working under SIM Canada as supported missionaries and are on loan to the college to serve and share as we are able. It has been wonderful to serve alongside the staff and students here so far. Discipleship, teaching and administrative help are some or our responsibilities. Sharing from our life experience, while soaking up the blessings of chapels, relationships and family have been life-giving. Our hearts long for the students we work with to experience God’s restoration in their lives, so that they can serve in the roles the Holy Spirit leads them into, with healthy souls, free of baggage.

Currently, the mission program, GlobeTrek, has five students in different internships around the world. The GlobeTrek program receives extra, intentional training the year before, so we are currently working with next year’s six GlobeTrekkers. The ministry year involves a month of travelling to several countries to visit different ministries in the Americas (North and South), and Africa. Next, the team members split up to 6-month internships in different countries and finally they join together again for a month of visiting missions in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. As they serve throughout the year, there are college courses they are completing, in order to learn as much as possible from the year abroad. Please join us in prayer for each of these students as they seek to be the hands and feet of Jesus while learning to hear His heartbeat of LOVE for the people around them.

All three kids have gained some wonderful friendships and are learning what it means to follow Jesus in a broken world. They attend the Three Hills School (public) where they continue to gain hearts longing to love and reach the lost. We are grateful for the youth groups in Three Hills and we always enjoy hosting families, Missionary Kids and international students in our home for times of connection.

High school graduation for Sam and Lavinia is planned for May 9. Both of them passed their Alberta drivers license this month on their first try. They are loving school and I am thrilled that their love for learning has been renewed.

Joshua, currently in Grade 9, has grown in his academics and has become the dodgeball king of the school. He loves biking and has biked to school almost every day, even in -25C.

Areas for Prayer and Praise:

  • Current and next year’s GlobeTrek students

  • That our hearts would be in tune with the Holy Spirit, so we can bless the students and staff at Prairie College

  • That Sam, Lavinia and Joshua would have opportunities to share Christ’s love in their school and that their transitions to life in Canada would continue to strengthen their walk with the Lord

  • Lavinia has been approved for a YWAM program in Papua New Guinea on a Medical and Literacy ship starting in August.

  • We are also solidifying our ministry roles with a SIM Canada ministry to migrant Latino workers which will begin after Prairie College graduation in May.

  • In the last few days, our family has been asked to consider a 2-week trip to Zambia in April. We would be ministering to the Flying Mission team for their annual Spiritual Life Conference. Please pray for wisdom and provision for this.
