Mission Exposure 2026: Spain & Morocco

The third year Missions Exposure trip (MX3), is one of the last steps towards preparing SBC students to step out of SBC to follow Jesus, serve the Church, and engage the world. This year, a team of 13 of us went to Spain and Morocco to do that preparation. During our time there, we served in various ways, sometimes in ways that hardly felt like serving at all. We grew as a team, often a team including the locals and other missionaries we were working with. There was so much laughter and joy of the Lord, and God showed up. There were so many ways God used us in Spain, and so many things he taught us. God used conversations on the bus with locals, church meetings, hikes, manual labor, bowling, camp, music, and so much more to draw our attention to him, and to build up his kingdom. Serving God can be so much fun, and it certainly was for us during our time on MX3. I am not finished processing and learning from my experience on MX3, even though we have been back for 2 months. There is so much still to glean from our time, and so many memories to be intentional about keeping. As a team, we now have a bond that cannot be compared to any other bond. Serving with people under the strength and direction of Christ is so unifying and beautiful. I know we will stay connected, and often look back on our time, and remind each other of all that God did during our time in Spain.


One of the biggest things I learned in a fuller way is that the church can be truly family, the family of God. As someone who grew up in Landmark, Manitoba, and whose church family has been made up of literal blood

relatives my whole life, I thought I knew what that meant. In the church we attended and worked with in Spain, we watched the young adults group, where no two people originated from the same country or region, treat each other like siblings, and the leaders like parents. We had the amazing privilege to be welcomed into that family the second we entered the church. My eyes mist at the beautiful thought of those amazing people we left in Spain and Morocco. Something we are prepared for in missions training starting in our first year at SBC, is that we will leave a part of our hearts in the places we serve. As much as I somehow never believe it, there is now a part of my heart in downtown Winnipeg from my first year, in Thicket Portage, Manitoba from my second year, and now in Spain and Morocco from this last year. As I prepare to say goodbye to SBC, I will leave a piece of my heart here too. But I leave confident that I have now been equipped with what I need to follow Jesus, serve the Church, and engage the world.
