MCC Manitoba Relocates to the East Exchange District in Winnipeg

In June, MCC Manitoba relocated to newly renovated office space at 140 Bannatyne Avenue in downtown Winnipeg, east of Main Street. MCC Manitoba and MCC Canada sold a jointly owned property at 134 Plaza Drive in 2022, which they had occupied as an office and retail space for more than 35 years. “The property on Plaza Drive served staff and supporters of MCC well for more than three decades, but it was time for a new chapter as the needs of both organizations have evolved and changed,” said MCC Manitoba executive director Darryl Loewen.

While MCC Manitoba and MCC Canada will no longer share office space, both organizations will continue to build on the strong relationship that was fostered at Plaza Drive.

In addition to the sale of the Plaza Drive building, MCC Manitoba is in the process of selling its property at 159 Henderson Highway, which housed staff offices on the second floor and a social enterprise coffeeshop, Sam’s Place, on the main floor.

“We are grateful for the years that we called the Elmwood neighbourhood home and served the community there,” said Loewen. “The move to the exchange district will allow us to cultivate strong staff relationships with all employees housed at a common campus. Our new central location will also position MCC Manitoba to serve our participants and partner organizations well.”

Sam’s Place will continue to function in a more central location as a street-level social enterprise coffeeshop focused on empowering and developing skills for young people with barriers to employment.

MCC’s material resources centre will also continue to be an active hub for volunteers, preparing items like comforters and relief kits for people facing conflict and disasters around the world.

A formal media opportunity with tours of the renovated historic building and interview availability will be hosted in September, in conjunction with the opening launch of Sam’s Place coffeeshop.
