Pelly Crossing Day Camp
April 10 we received a text from our pastor, forwarding this message from the leader of the Barrie Ontario team planning to help with the Pelly Crossing Day Camp: “Regretfully, we have to cancel our plans.” After a week of prayer and consideration, we decided to see how many people from our church, Northern Collective Church, would be interested and available to help. There were enough to go ahead with running the camp.
Praise the Lord that we did! 28 different kids (plus 5 children of team members) came to the 4-day camp. Some were amazed to hear we taught their parents the Bible when they were kids. People from our congregation baked goodies, prepared crafts, prayed, and 5 joined us in going to Pelly Crossing to run the day camp. Up to 5 Pelly Crossing summer recreation workers also helped.
Highlights from the Week
Hearing campers learn John 14:6. (Song used to teach the verse. John 14:6(youtube.com))
Overhearing one rec worker ask another, “Do you believe this stuff?” during a Bible lesson, showing they were listening and thinking about what was being taught.
One of the young adult rec workers said she really enjoyed the week.
Cooler temperatures and timely rains helped clear up smoke from forest fires north of Pelly Crossing.
Seeing the campers with their tie dye shirts with John 14:6 printed on the back.
Having eight community members and one cyclist from the campground attend the church service we held Wednesday evening. Harrison shared his testimony.
Working together as a church to run the day camp in Pelly Crossing.
Whitehorse Correctional Centre (WCC)
Tony has had a few new inmates come for one-to-one visits who have shown a keen interest in reading and learning from the Bible. One requested a Bible reading plan, so Tony made a few copies of a chronological plan. When Tony mentioned it to some other inmates, they also wanted to try the reading plan.
Henry has come to Pelly Crossing several times to help with our monthly church services there. He shared that he was involved in prison ministry in his home country of Nigeria and was interested in helping at WCC. His site access was approved, and he will help with the August 4 WCC church services, Lord willing.
