Leadership by Example

Regular recipients and readers of The Recorder will have noticed a recent disruption in the distribution of this publication. The last issue was produced and distributed in April 2024.

Here’s my story -

On May 7, I experienced a fall and broke my left arm and left hip. The hip required replacement because of the location of the break. Surgery went well, but I encountered other complications making my hospital stay longer than anticipated. Many people prayed for my recovery, and I’m so grateful for the care and concern extended. I am happy to report that I am walking without a walker, cane, or limp. My arm is taking a bit of time to regain the mobility and strength, but with therapy, it is improving. Our Great Physician continues to work.

This issue of The Recorder has many articles and stories that keep directing us to the goodness of God. Prayers have been answered regarding the translation work in Papua New Guinea to which Murray and Carol Honsberger have been giving leadership. The General Board and Council had meaningful meetings earlier in June. Individuals are stepping forward to provide leadership in their churches, and young people are requesting and receiving baptism. The addition of Anika Dueck to our Home Office staff as part-time admin assistant has already made a difference. The theme of mentoring and developing leaders runs through these pages. God is working in beautiful ways in congregations and ministries.

The fall season is near and often provides opportunities for new ideas to be launched. It’s a great time to include others to become involved and help them find meaningful participation with something that is a ‘good fit’ for their talents and interests. Sometimes it requires a personal invitation rather than relying on the call for needed volunteers. Stepping out and making that connection with another individual can be an encouragement for both of you.

Whatever the ministry and opportunity – at home or in church and community, may it be another way for people to see Jesus and experience his love. Working together, learning from one another, and discovering abilities is a beautiful part of developing leaders.

Praying many blessings on the new and on-going initiatives that seek to bring people to Jesus. Thy kingdom come.
